The heart of Molonglo
Following extensive community engagement and consultation, the Molonglo Town Centre and Surrounds Master Plan has now been released, advancing the planning and vision for Canberra’s newest town centre.
Molonglo Town Centre is envisioned as the civic, social and commercial heart of the Molonglo District. The sustainable design of the Molonglo Town Centre will enable it to be more resilient, liveable and accessible.
The master plan provides for around 7,000 homes, an expansive network of community open space, strong protection of natural areas and a commercial core. It also makes provisions for key community facilities including a school, library and community hub, child and family centre, police station, place of worship, ACT Government flexible working hub and sporting and recreational spaces.

About Molonglo
The Molonglo Valley, located on Ngunnawal Country, will be home to nearly 70,000 people by 2050. The Molonglo Town Centre, formerly the Molonglo Group Centre, will be at the heart of a new suburb named Molonglo. This area will cover over 97 hectares and stretch 5 kilometres along the Molonglo River, housing around 15,000 future residents. It is located on the western edge of the ACT, south of Belconnen, north of Weston Creek, and east of Denman Prospect, across John Gorton Drive.
Community consultation
The Molonglo Town Centre will be developed in several phases and the community will play a key role in shaping the future Town Centre.
ACT Government has been engaging with Canberrans about Molonglo since 2004 including the development of the Canberra Spatial Plan.
Extensive community engagement, including targeted First Nations engagement developed the community vision for the district, which has been considered in the master plan.
Further opportunities for community input will be included in the next phases of development.
