The Future Community of Kenny
Guided by place principles, Kenny will be a neighbourhood that brings people together, provides local and social living, be close to nature, living with water and have integrated connection.
The location of Kenny is unique, within close proximity to the Nadjung Mada Nature Reserve meaning 'wet-land' in Ngunnawal language, and the termination of the Sullivans Creek Catchment. Both of these sites hold great cultural significance and will be well integrated into the design of future Kenny.
The suburb of Kenny was named in honour of Elizabeth Kenny, an Australian who pioneered muscle rehabilitation practices which serve as the foundation of physiotherapy. She became interested in how muscles worked while convalescing from an accident when she was a teenager. Later in life, Elizabeth Kenny became a bush nurse and returned to Nobby in Queensland. By then she was known as 'Nurse Kenny', earning the title 'Sister' on cargo ships that carried soldiers to and from Australia and England during the First World War.
The naming of streets, playgrounds and parks will be in recognition of nurses and health administrators.
Community and Stakeholder Engagement
The SLA sought
the views of stakeholders and community from July to August 2024 to help shape
Kenny.
We are
now listening to what we have heard, and a summary will be published here later this year.
Mingle, our community development program
The Suburban Land Agency’s community development program ‘Mingle’ supports thriving and sustainable communities through community driven initiatives.
Mingle encourages new residents to get to know each other, feel a sense of belonging and become more involved in their community through events, activities, and workshops which bring the community together.
The Mingle program will become more active in Kenny as the community grows.
